Meta aims to bring web3 into all its future products

Meta, formerly Facebook, has filed eight new trademark applications with the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) to attach its logo to several web3 related projects, including the metaverse and cryptocurrencies.

Cryptos, blockchain, and metaverse are mentioned explicitly in six of the filings. One of the filings suggested that Meta seeks to bring online social networking and dating services, including a specific branch that will specifically cater to networking between cryptocurrency investors.

The company is also bringing entertainment and electronic publishing services within virtual reality; financial transaction processing services that relate to tokens; design and development of computer hardware and software that relates to web3 such as gaming; wearable peripherals for video games connected to virtual reality; telecommunication services for electronic assets held on its platform; and downloadable software in the nature of a mobile application.

Moreover, Meta is also working on its biggest revenue generator, advertising services, for web3 and the metaverse. Filing number 97320144 mentioned, “advertising services via virtual augmented reality networks and the metaverse.”

From the initial filing, it can take up to eight months for the USPTO to process these trademark applications.

These filings aren’t surprising given that Meta has announced plans to bring non-fungible tokens, or NFTs, to both Facebook and Instagram. The plan was confirmed by both Meta Chief executive Mark Zuckerberg and Head of Instagram Adam Mosseri.
